The E8 has been Jura's best-selling super-automatic for years and it's still the right answer for most buyers shopping in the $2,500–$3,500 range. Seventeen specialty drinks, the Pulse Extraction Process for short shots, and Jura's "professional" fine-foam frother — which actually does deliver microfoam closer to a real steam wand than the entry-level setups. The color display isn't as flashy as the S8's touchscreen, but the rotary-knob navigation is faster once you learn it. Daily maintenance is push-button automated. This is the machine to compare everything else against.

What we liked and didn't

Pros

  • Best balance of price, drinks, and milk quality in Jura's lineup
  • Pulse Extraction Process produces credibly short espresso shots
  • Automated cleaning and rinsing

Cons

  • Display is a step behind the touchscreen models
  • Like all super-automatics, no manual control over shot variables
