The S8 is mostly the E8 with a better screen

Rating
4.5 / 5

On paper the S8 is a step up from the E8: 4.3" color touchscreen, 15 specialty drinks, illuminated cup platform, more chrome. In daily use, the difference is mostly the interface. The shot quality is essentially identical. The drink lineup overlaps almost entirely. If you're going to interact with the menu often — different drinks, different users — the touchscreen is genuinely worth the upgrade. If you'll just hit the espresso button every morning, the E8 saves you $300 for the same cup.

What we liked and didn't

Pros

  • 4.3" color touchscreen is excellent
  • Illuminated cup platform is more useful than it sounds
  • Same Pulse Extraction Process and milk system as E8

Cons

  • Cup quality is essentially identical to the cheaper E8
  • No more drinks than the E8 in practice
